* Having a Doula during the labor and birth process is associated with many positive outcomes, including decreasing cesarean sections, reduced need for the use of Pitocin. positive childbirth experiences, reduction in the need for epidurals and decreased rates of postpartum depression.
According the National Institute of Health: The results of the study showed that the expectant mothers matched with a doula had better birth outcomes, were four times less likely to have a low-birth-weight baby, were two times less likely to experience a birth complication, and were significantly more likely to initiate breastfeeding [31] (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10292163/ )
Other studies have shown that having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%.2
Doulas often use the power of touch and massage to reduce stress and anxiety during labor.
